1. Internet Tutoring Requirements

  • Operating System - Windows 7 or later / Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or later
  • Processor - 2 GHz minimum
  • RAM - 4 GB minimum
  • Microphone, Speakers, and webcam (internal or external)
  • Computer Chip - Intel i3, i5, or i7 (or AMD equivalent)
  • A regular laptop or desktop computer is needed. iPads or other tablets are not suitable for online tutoring. Google Chromebooks will also not work, as Zoom won’t download on them.
  • A mouse for manipulating onscreen tiles and other items, or a touchscreen computer.
  • A headset with earphones and a microphone – no earbuds or microphone not attached to the headset.
  • Internet Speed - 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload (wired connection highly recommended)

2. For Wireless Connections: PLEASE NOTE: A wired connection is strongly recommended.

For wireless, our internet provider recommends a minimum connection speed of 25 megabytes download and 5 megabytes upload. You can test your home internet speed by going to www.speedtest.net and conducting a speed test. If this connection is lower, make arrangements to increase your speed. If you must use wireless, the computer should be as close to the router as possible. Lessons that are lost due to poor Internet connectivity will be the responsibility of the family, if the connection is wireless. Note: DSL is not fast enough to handle the demands of online video tutoring. Make sure your Internet is high-speed, not DSL.

3.  Create a Zoom account:
We will be using Zoom as our online tutoring platform, so you will need to create a free Zoom account.  Sign up for your free Zoom account at www.zoom.us. Download the Zoom Client for Meetings onto your computer by going to https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting 5

4. Tutoring environment:

Before a session is scheduled, please make sure the computer is set up in a distraction-free environment and have the headphones connected. Make sure you have signed up for a free Zoom account and that the Zoom Client has been downloaded on to your computer.  For young children, a parent must be present at the session to make sure the connection is good and to assist the student with any initial set up issues. The parent does not need to stay with the student throughout the lesson.
